1) Respect: Respect each other and respect the admins. Their word is law. No, just kidding. If there is a policy, another member, or anything else that you have a problem with, you are free to present your concerns or views to an admin. We will review any grievances you may have and will hear you out on any point you feel you ought to make. You are always free to debate with us if you genuinely do not feel that something is right, as long as you do so courteously and respectfully. However, you must accept that the admins do have final say in all instances. If you need to contact an admin, you may do so via PM. The links to all of our profiles are located to the left, on the sidebar.
2) Fighting: This goes along with the first rule. Fighting out of character can get pretty nasty and cause a lot of tears, but worst of all it can tear this family apart. Please refrain from fighting with each other or being confrontational in any way. Try to resolve conflicts amongst yourselves calmly and rationally first. If that doesn't work, contact an admin about the problem. Out-of-character fighting can result in a warning or a ban, depending on the severity of the situation.
3) Getting Accepted: When you have registered as a new character, you are not required to make an application, but you must make at least 5 in-character posts to be qualified as a true member. These first 5 are the only ones we will check for the word count on (see below), so you absolutely have to meet it on those. Once you have made these first 5 posts, PM one of the admins, and tell us what group your character belong to (Heroic, villainous, neutral, anti-heroic, companion, guardian) and what custom title you want your character to have. We will accept your character after checking your word count.
4) Account Activity: You may have as many accounts and therefore as many characters as you would like. However, cleanups will be conducted every quarter of the year. Characters that have not been played for at least 3 months will be deleted, and it is possible for other players to claim said character. The best way to keep your character is to post.
5) Inactive Characters: We don’t want anyone hoarding characters without getting good use out of them. If we find you guilty of this--meaning, if you don’t make an in-character post in 3 months without any explanation or notice on the Away board--the admins will be forced to surrender your character to another member if someone expresses interest in taking over your character. The original account will be deleted. If you would like to take over a character that you notice hasn’t been roleplayed in the past 3 months, please contact an admin.
6) Update: Make sure you help us keep everything updated. Every member receives a sub-board to keep their list of characters current, as well as to post thread trackers, diary entries, relationship lists, bios, etc. If you drop a character, please remove them from your list. Also, make sure we have the correct characters on the Character and Face Registries. If you spot a mistake, please let us know about it.
7) Point of View: Each IC post should be in third person, past tense, unless you are showing a character’s thoughts or a character is writing something down. Always use quotation marks (“”) to show where your character is talking, and let us know in some way when the character is thinking.
8) In Character: Please try to stay in character. After all, you're here to play the characters you love, but if you go out of character you're not actually playing them. Characters don’t have to follow their canon tale exactly, but their personalities should stay the same.
9) Canon Relations: Please don’t create an OC that has any relationship or ties to a canon character unless that canon character is being played here and their roleplayer gives you permission to make the OC.
10) Mary Sues/Gary Stus: Mary Sues and Gary Stus are no fun. No fun at all. Give your original character flaws and weaknesses. Nobody is perfect.
11) Godmodding: No godmodding without permission from the roleplayer if the character is taken.
12) Intruding: You can only post in IC threads marked with your character’s name in the title, or a thread marked as open. A closed thread shouldn’t be intruded upon.
13) Quality: Although Freedom welcomes roleplayers of any level, proper English is expected. This means both in the boards and in the cbox. Mistakes are understandable, especially when English isn't your first language. We just don't want to see excessive text-speak arising out of laziness.
14) Quantity: We do have a 150 word count minimum. We will only have to speak to you about this rule if it’s brought to our attention that you continually break it.
15) Group Plots: If you are doing a thread with 3+ people, please remember to give ample time for posting. Most members of the site have real lives and responsibilities outside of Freedom. While there are benefits to fast-paced threads, we need to respect the needs of the other players. Remember that some players don't speak English as a first language, so be gracious about errors and give them plenty of time to think.
16) Plot Together: Please do not make big plot decisions that will drastically affect the personal lives of other characters without consulting with the other character's roleplayer. (For instance, no surprise babies, you can't kill off a character without permission, etc.) When in doubt, PM your partner and discuss it.
