It was a bright and sunny day in Paris, and the citizens were preparing to start their day. The baker baked bread for the city, the farmer drove his groceries to the marketplace. Notre Dame was filled with devoted Catholics saying their mornng prayers and choir boys singing their praise to the Lord. In another part of the city, a young girl in colorful clothes was on her way to work. Her name was Elietta, and she was the daughter of the gypsy dancer Esmeralda and her husband Kovu. The girl hummed as she made her way to work, greeting everyone she knew along the way. The tavern where she was working was a nice place, and the innkeeper greeted all his guests with a broad smile and a hearty meal. Some times the guests came for what he kept in his barrels, and the innkeeper offered what he had with a big smile on his face.
Elietta made her way inside the inn and greeted her boss and his daughter while putting on her apron. She started her work by grabbing a broom and sweeping the floor. When the floor looked clean, she started wiping the tables so they would be clean when the first customers of the day made their entrance. The innkeeper's daughter prepared today's menu - it was a silent agreement between her and Elietta that the gypsy girl would not scare away any guests with her horrible cooking. Elietta kept to the cleaning and to carry trays of food and drinks for the guests when the innkeeper called on her.
Elietta enjoyed her work. It was not much, but it paid well, and the tip she got for her job helped pay for food and housing at her parent's home. She liked the feeling of helping her parents who had done so much for her. She loved her family. But at times she wished she could travel and see the world. The life working at a busy inn did not allow such luxury. The girl sighed and returned to her tasks. One day she would just sail away and leave this place behind.......
