Wild smiled shyly when Blaz seemed to appreciate the way she had raised Charlotte. She was so small when she was born, she said, almost as an excuse for her softness. Dark elves were rumored to be tough, not like her. But then again, her mother had been a light elf. I couldn't bring myself to give such a small, defenseless child to Master's care. The only person he really cared about was himself, though he also spoiled his own daughter. Be glad you never met her, she was horrible.
The elf girl was relieved when she recognized the voice belonging to Blaz. She knew in her heart it really was him, and not some demon trying to fool her. She felt warm inside when he surrounded her by his thoughts in an attempt to protect her. Yet she felt the urge to protest when he said she was more valuable than him. I am glad you came to help me, my friend, she said softly. But I don't want you to be in danger either. We can protect each other...
She knew she was right in her need to protect him a moment later when he could no longer hide his human side to their attackers. Wild had no human blood in her veins, as her father had been a Dark elf. Hoping she had inherited the warrior side of the Dark elves, she charged the Demon, trying to get him away from Blaz. The suffering she had gone through in her former life, the attack of her village, the loss of her parents and the years at the orphanage only made her tougher and harder to break. True her body was still weakened, but her soul was strong and ready to fight.
Just as she was ready to throw herself over the demon and bite, she heard a horn in the distance and saw a source of light. The demon and the Angel of Death hissed and retreated, clearly not welcoming this new source of light. Wild assumed it was because they were creatures of Darkness. Before she got the chance to mock them for it, Blaz grabbed her with force, pulling her with him towards the source of light. She was a bit closer to Queen Radella than he was, and instinctively, she reached out for the Queen as well in an attempt to drag her with them as Blaz practically threw them towards the source of light.
She could hear the Angel of Death roar in disappointment behind them as the portal closed. Then everything was quiet.
Her chest was heaving as she returned to her body, like she had been running a long distance without stopping. Her body was covered in beads of sweat, and her long, dark hair floated around her head. Slowly, almost painfully she opened her big, black eyes and looked around. The black eye Master had given her, still hurt, and she had still colors after the bruise. But she could see properly now, and the swollen area was gone.
She was in a bedroom, fair and clean, with beautiful colors and a soft bed. She felt soft fabrics against her body, and looked down at herself to find a gown she had never seen before. Where ever she was, she had landed with friendly people who had taken care to bathe and dress her. She felt a warm presence close to her, warm hands locked around her own. The touch was friendly, so she did nothing to break free of the grip, in fact she quite enjoyed it and wanted it to last.
Wanting to see who was beside her she turned her head slowly. Could it be Blaz, her unknown rescuer? So far she had never seen his face, not for real. She wondered what he looked like. She also hoped to meet Queen Radella soon, and the rest of her newfound friends.

Maurice and the other orphans had also fallen asleep on the horses at the time the traveling party plodded through the secret gate. Charlotte buried her tiny face against Evan's neck, clutching onto him like a small child cradling a much beloved teddy bear. Paul clutched his arms around Ardis in a similar way. Both children were smiling peacefully.
The children were exhausted, and did not wake up as the guards picked them up and carried them to the prepared rooms. Neither did they resist when they were carefully washed and put to bed. One of the maidservants said afterwards with tears in her eyes that she had never seen such mistreated and starved children. How on earth had this happened?
Only little Charlotte woke up for a moment as released his grip on her, anxiously looking around for her big brother. "Can you sleep with me tonight, Master Evan Sir?" she asked pleadingly. "I'm a little afraid of the dark..."
