Isabella could not believe that she was alone with Haidar - in his arms and with his body close to her own. It was even better than she had dared to imagine when she started dreaming of him in the lonely years after her husband had died. Any moment now she feared she would wake up alone in her room - and that she had only been dreaming of this wonderful evening.
Her soft lips curled in a smile when Haidar caressed her hair, and she snuggled closer to him and snuck gentle caresses on his hair and skin too. "I am glad I have been able to be useful to you and your family, Mylord," she said softly. "You are good people and deserve to be happy."
Noticing how he paused and pulled away by her confession of love for him, she was afraid that she had said too much, and thus lost him. But he didn't seem angered by her confession, nor did he fire her or tell her to leave. So she stayed, smiling softly when she heard his words. He had been afraid this was only a dream, just like she had been. "It is not a dream, Mylord," she said softly. "This is real, and so am I. You can pinch my arm if you want to check for yourself..."
Her heart skipped a beat when he drew her closer and kissed her passionately, the happiest smile on the world on her face when he declared his love for her. Wrapping her arms around him, she returned his kisses with passion, melting into his strong embrace once more.

The rest of the night together was a blur of smiles, kisses and laughter. When Haidar awoke the next morning, he found himself in his own bed. His first reaction was to be startled – how did I end up here? Glancing at the sheets beside him, he saw the coverlet had been crumpled. Someone had been in the bed beside him, recently moved.
His eyes widened in shock, the memories coming back, words that were said. Had he done . . .?! With a gasp, he drew back the cover over him and was relieved to find himself fully clothed, minus his shoes. With a sigh of relief, he leaned back against the pillows, hands over his face. He knew there was much at stake that could be ruined by a night of heated passion. How could he explain to Yvette why her teacher suddenly left and never said goodbye?
You got lucky, he told himself. Just pray that your memories of last night are the same as her's.
This night was the most lovely Isabella could remember. She really enjoyed Haidar's company. He was a highly intelligent man and it was easy to talk to him. They had laughed together, talked about everything on their minds and shared a lot of kisses. She felt close to him, as if he was a natural part of herself, and from the kisses he gave her she suspected he felt the same.
At the end of the evening Haidar had walked her to his room and asked her to stay and talk some more. She didn't want to ruin the nice athmosphere in the room, so she sat by his bedside to talk some more. When they finally fell asleep they were both fully dressed, and she rested her head against his chest with a happy smile in her face.
The next morning she woke up before him. Her eyes widened when she realized she was not in her own bed, but then she felt Haidar's arm around her. As she remembered the events of last night a happy smile lit up her face. She was relieved to know they were still fully dressed. She loved him, but she wanted to let their feelings for each other develop slowly. They would have plenty of time to explore each other later, when they knew each other better and were sure of their feelings. She knew she would not resist if Haidar wanted to meet her again for more kisses and caresses. Looking at the sleeping man in the bed beside her, her eyes softened and she leaned over him and kissed his cheek softly before getting out of bed.
Making her way to the kitchen she prepared a delicious breakfast for him - the one he enjoyed the most. She also prepared a couple glasses of freshly pressed fruit juice. When the breakfast was ready, she put it on a tray and carried it back to Haidar's bedroom, knocking gently on the door before entering.
She saw him leaning back against the pillows when she entered the room, and she smiled softly at him as she placed the breakfast tray on the nightstand by the bed.
"Good morning," she said softly and sat down on the bedside. "I hope you slept well last night. I have prepared breakfast for us, as I know you soon must pick up Yvette and leave for work. Do you want me to come to the training field with hot lunch for you today - or do you want me to prepare a lunchbox you can bring with you?"

Haidar heard the knock on his bedroom door and peeked through his fingers. He was glad to see Isabella standing there and even MORE glad to see her smile. Lowering his hands to his lap, he watched as she placed the tray at his side.
"Thank you," he told her. "You are always so good to me."
He noticed that she did not mention what was said the previous night, asking him the normal questions about his upcoming day. Was she angry with him? Had he done something to upset her? Had it all moved too fast and now she regretted it?
Before she could leave the bedside, he took her hand and smiled. "Stay and share this meal, there is more than enough for both of us."
Sipping the juice, he heard her question about Yvette and his lunch. "Ah, let her stay a while longer. It would not be right to take her away so soon. I am sure the Princess would not object to another hour or two."
He smiled at the thought of Isabella visiting him at the training field. "Your presence would be most delightful on the field," he said. "But is that what you wish? I know things where said last night and we . . . well . . . How are you feeling about all this?" he ended rather rush, not sure how to put his thoughts into words as those dazzling-blue eyes were watching him.
Isabella smiled as she entered the room and noticed Lord Haidar peeking at her through his fingers. It was an endearing trait that made her wish to run her fingers through his hair, just like she had done last night. Her smile widened when he told her she was always so good to him.
"That is because I love you," she said and kissed his cheek softly as she placed the tray at his side so he could reach his food. "You have been good to me from the first moment we met."
Her gaze softened when he took her hand and asked her to stay and share the meal. "If you want me to," she said and sat down near him, making sure she did not block his way to his meal, and yet close enough to touch him.
Nibbling on her breakfast she smiled when he asked her to let Yvette stay with the Princess a couple more hours. "I am sure none of them will mind," she agreed with a smile. "They seem very close to each other from the few times I have seen them together. The Princess seem to be close to all of the little orphans. I am certain she will be a wonderful mother one day." A little sigh escaped her lips when she said this, revealing that also the young teacher wished for a child of her own.
Sipping her juice, she smiled softly when Lord Haidar assured her that he would welcome her presence on the training field. Stars lit in her eyes when he mentioned last night, and a smile appeared on her face. "I must thank you for the wonderful night we had last night," she said shyly. "I have never been so happy all my life... and your kisses were wonderful."
She blushed when he asked what she felt about all of this. "I was afraid I had stepped out of line and done something to upset you, and that you might regret what happened between us last night," she confessed. "But even so I can't help how I feel for you, and I will not protest if you choose to kiss me again..."
She paused for a moment, knowing that if she did not ask now the question that had burned in her chest all morning she might never get an answer. "How do you feel about all this?"

Haidar's heart raced as Isabella came up to the bed. He was relieved when she said that she loved him, glad that the words had not been a product of his dreams. He gave her a smile and touched her arm as she set the tray down. Taking his drink in hand, he allowed her to join him on the bed, resting a hand on her knee.
“This time will also give us a chance to rest and tidy the house,” he agreed. “Perhaps talk about things?”
The lord noticed the sigh on Isabella's lips at the mention of a child. Setting his meal down, he lifted her chin gently and kissed her lips softly. “You will be a wonderful mother one day,” he told her when he drew back. “You have already started with Yvette and me.”
Haidar chuckled when she spoke of the kisses they had shared last night. “I feared that I was out of practice,” he admitted. “Since the war, the only kisses I have give are the ones on Yvette's head. I know they are not the same as between two adults like us.”
When she explained her feelings about the previous night, Haidar moved closer and stroked her cheek. “I will never regret it,” he said softly. “I have not felt so alive in years. Only the gift of Yvette has made my heart so light. The burden of war and death was washed away at your touch. I will be forever grateful for that.”
Asked what his thoughts were, the man kissed her lips softly. “My heart is more full than ever before. I cannot help but smile in your presence and my laughter is more genuine than ever. You make me feel as I did as a child, safe and happy. Only my sister and parents have given me that before – a sense of family.” His eyes dropped as he looked at her pale skin, the beauty of her youth. “Yet, I know that such a change may frighten others. I do not want to upset Yvette with so much at once. Perhaps we can present it to her in stages as we grow through this new love.”
Isabella was glad Haidar touched her arm as she set down the tray, relieved that he didn't seem to regret what had happened between them the night before. Her bright blue eyes sparkled with joy when he allowed her to join him on the bed, and her cheeks blushed pink when he rested a hand on her knee. But she enjoyed his touch and did nothing to remove his hand.
She nodded in approval when he spoke of spending the time away from Yvette to rest and tidy the house and talk about things. "I will be happy to talk about anything you wish, Mylord," she smiled. "I enjoy spending time with you."
When Haidar kissed her lips, Isabella sighed again - with happiness this time - and returned his kiss with tender passion. "You and Yvette are the only family I feel I have," she said softly. "My father didn't want me, and we have never been close as you know. My sisters were older than me, so much that they were already married by the time I was old enough to play with them. And their children have never been kind to me. So you see why I would wish to care for you and your daughter as the only family I have."
After the kiss she felt much braver, and added with blushing cheeks. "And one day I hope to have more children... Don't you want other children too? Yvette won't stay a child forever you know, even if we wish to keep her with us forever and shield her from the evils of the world..."
She smiled when he confessed to his fears of being out of practice last night. "It didn't feel like you were out of practice when we kissed," she assured him softly. Then her eyes rested tenderly on him.
"You speak of since the war... You had a woman before the war started? Someone you lost since she is not here with you now?" Her hand rested on top of his when she spoke, afraid she had ripped up old wounds. There was no jealousy or malice in her voice, just warm understanding and a wish to help him heal eventual old wounds. "You don't have to talk of it if it is too painful," she said softly. "But I am here for you if you need to talk."
She smiled when he spoke of the kisses he gave on Yvette's head. "Your love has worked miracles for our little girl," she said softly. "I can see from day to day how the shy little girls opens up and blossoms like a rose that has been thirsting for a long time and suddenly gets water."
She smiled when Haidar stroked her cheek, resting her head against his hand. Her own hand caressed his face, the way she had yearned to touch him from she started daydreaming about him. "I will not regret it either," she replied as she stroked his hair and cheek. "You and Yvette are the only persons that make my life worth living. With you, I have a life - after being alone for so long."
A soft smile lit up her face when Haidar spoke of his heart being more full than ever before, and she kissed his lips with passion, snuggling closer to him. "I am glad you feel safe and happy with me, my love," she said softly. "You are a good man, and I want to give you all the happiness of the world if I can. I know Yvette wants to make you happy too. Every word she says about you in class is filled with daughterly love for you." She listened as Haidar spoke of not wishing to upset Yvette with so much at once, nodding in approval. "I agree it would be wise not to present too much at once," she said. "Children are wary of too much change in their lives. It would be wise to show it to her little by little, don't you think?"

Haidar smiled when she called him “mylord”. Taking her hand, he kissed it, caressing the underside of her fingers with his thumb. “You need not call me that any longer,” he told her. “At least not when we are alone like this.”
The man closed his eyes when Isabella responded to his kiss. It was the same lovely sensation as he had felt the previous night, a tenderness and warmth that had been missing for so many years. He drew his fingers through her hair, the strands like velvet on his skin.
When she confessed her desire for a child of her own and asked his opinion on the matter, the man smiled. “I have never thought of myself as a father,” he told her. “But Yvette changed that – she changed my entire world. She would be happy to have a sibling to play with, I think.” He paused and looked at her blue eyes. “Why do you ask me with such uncertainty? Do you think that I would deny you if you were to ask me for a child we could raise together?”
The happiness slid from Haidar's face as Isabella questioned him about the war. “I am not eager to share that past with many,” he told her. “While all the other soldiers took comfort with women of the night, I tried to pick my bed mates with more wishful thinking. Did I believe I would fall in love – perhaps. But I knew that the life of my command would take it's toll on any woman that I chose. I will admit that I dabbled in pursuits of the flesh in my human need, but I always tried to make it last longer than a simple exchange of coin. Did I find love? I thought so many times in my loneliness, but seeing you in my presence now, I know that it could never have been real love. None of those women, those chances, lit the same fire in my heart as you do.”
He drew her close with a groan as she kissed him again, their bodies entwined with fabric and limbs. “If I was not a man of honor,” he said between pecks, “and you not a lady of grace, I would kiss all of you until the the sun set. Your beauty could earn you any man, yet you have chosen me. I do not wish to tarnish our budding feelings with rushed passion. Yet I cannot deny that you entice me to no end when you are so close.”
He looked into her eyes, wondering what she would say to his confessions of desire. Would she rebuke him as a hormone-crazed man, no different than the others that had lusted after her body? His desire was real, his need just as unsated, yet he wished to give her the love that only such intimacy could show – but only if she was ready.
Isabella smiled when Haidar told her she didn't need to call her "mylord" when they were alone. "Thank you, M... Haidar," she said with a smile. "I will try to remember only to call you that when we have company..."
Locked in Haidar's embrace, Isabella closed her eyes and returned his kisses with passion. She loved the feel of his fingers through her hair, and her own hands buried themselves in his golden mane. His kisses felt every bit as wonderful as she had dreamed they would be the lonely years where she daydreamed of him, and she could not have enough of him.
A warm smile lit up her face when Haidar spoke of Yvette changing his world - hopefully for the better. "I am quite certain Yvette would be happy to have siblings," she agreed. "Little girls need someone to take care of to practice their motherly skills - and smaller siblings are great test dummies for their affections."
She blushed when he asked why she had asked him with such uncertainty. "Growing up with my father he would have a temper tantrum if I dared ask him for anything," she confessed. "So I had to learn early that I would never be granted anything I wished for - especially if I asked my father. Perhaps some of these thoughts are still stuck in my mind - so I partially expect to be refused what I ask for from others."
She smiled and placed a soft kiss on his lips again. "But I wouldn't mind having a child with you though. You are a good man, and from the happiness of Yvette I can already tell you are a wonderful father."
When Haidar spoke of his past during the war and his feeble attempts to find love from some of the women he met, Isabella listened with warmth and understanding in her gaze. Her studies had taught her that war could be cruel, so she did not find it strange that Haidar had tried to find love where he could get it. She assumed the women he bedded had not been prepared for what tolls it would take on him as a commander to be sent off to war again.
Isabella however, knew what it would claim of him, and she was ready and willing to make him feel safe when he was at home - to make him human again after the horrors he had seen on the battlefield. If a loving night in her arms was what he needed to forget, well, Isabella was willing to give him what he wished for. His words of none of the other women being able to light the same fire in his heart as she did brought a smile to her face and she kissed him again.
"No other man will be able to affect me like you do either," she said softly and snuggled into his arms. "You are the only man I have ever loved. My husband never claimed me in any way the three years we were married - he wished to wait until I was old enough. But he died before my sixteenth birthday. So you are the first and only man in my life..."
She giggled with happiness when he drew her close, his groans and passionate kisses only increasing her own desire - the secret yearning for him only growing stronger every minute. The way he kissed her, the way he pressed his body against her when they kissed, caused her to moan in passion and she noticed how their limbs entwined while the kisses increased in heat and passion.
At some point she landed on her back in his bed, and he was laying on top of her, drowning himself in her gaze. Her chest was heaving at this point, her arms and legs locked around his body and her slender body pressed against his. She whimpered impatiently as he stopped his passionate kisses to talk to her. His words about desire and passion made her heart race in her chest, and she whimpered softly and squirmed under him, no longer able to hide how much she loved him and wanted him.
"Please," she whispered and looked pleadingly up at him with bright blue eyes, her cheeks flushing pink as her golden hair pooled around her head. "Please don't stop..."

Haidar stroked Isabella's cheek as she spoke of her childhood. “You know I am not your father,” he said. “And I would gladly grant you anything in my power as long as it made you happy. I can see from your eyes that a child would make you happy beyond anything I could purchase in the market.”
As he spoke of his war years, Haidar saw Isabella's calm face. He had worried that speaking to her of his earlier relationships would frighten her away, put him in a less-than-charming light. He sighed with relief when she kissed him, leaning into the pressure of her lips.
Knowing that she was still pure, the commander did feel a little jealous. While it would have been impossible for him to preserve his purity for a woman he did not know he would find, it would have been a nice beginning to their story to share that innocence with one another. Logging her naivete in his mind, he moved gently with his caresses.
Finding himself so entwined in her arms, Haidar could feel his face flushing. When he paused to speak with her, he saw the color of her cheeks and how she whimpered in his arms. Smiling, he kissed her forehead. She was a vision laying against his sheets, golden hair cast around her face.
“I will only do as you say,” he told her, kissing his way slowly down her right arm. “If you wish to save some of you for another time, tell me and I will obey your desire.”
Reaching her shoulder, he rested his head against her chest, feeling the beating of her heart. It was cute the way her skin changed color at his touch, the heat rising to the surface. He continued his exploration up her neck and chin, crashing on her lips with a groan of desire. When he thought she could handle it, he allowed his hands to crawl back down, keeping her lips occupied with his own. His fingers trembled as the caressed the sleeves of her gown, the sides of her body and her well-shaped hips.
His kissing had just moved over to her ear when he heard a noise by the door and his eyes flashed with light. Someone had just entered the house!
Isabella enjoyed the feel of Haidar's hand caressing her cheeks, resting her head against his hand to show how much she appreciated his touch. A smile reached her eyes when he spoke of wishing to grant her anything in his power to make her happy - it only showed what a good man he was. "You are so good to me," she said softly. "It is true that I wish for a child, or should I say another child - as little Yvette has started feeling like a daughter to me too. You are the only man I love enough to want as a father for my children..."
Turning her head she placed a loving kiss on his lips. "But I don't want this to be a one-sided relationship where you are the one to give without getting anything in return," she said as she rested her cheek against his. "I wish to give you anything in my power as well, to make you happy. If there is anything you want from me, I want you to tell me. I don't have much experience with men, and don't know what they would wish for."
As he spoke of his war years Isabella saw in his eyes how he feared that the talk of his earlier relationships would scare her away. Her own eyes held no judgement over his past. She knew that a man living through the horrors of war in his attempt to defend his land and his family had to seek some relief for the pressure somewhere. Some men drank, others gambled or sought the pleasure only a woman could give them. She felt no jealousy as the other women clearly were gone from his life now - and thus he was free to love her if he wanted.
While their caresses continued, Isabella kissed the commander with all the love and passion she felt for him. He was the first man she had kissed, and her kisses showed her inexperience. Her heart raced with excitement as she continued responding to his kisses, pressing her body against him. His kisses felt wonderful, and they lit a fire in her heart that only he could put out. She was glad he was gentle now in the beginning. When her body had adjusted to him, he could be rougher without hurting her.
Laying against his sheets, her chest was heaving as he looked down at her, telling that he would only do as she said. "I want to give you all of me, Mylord," she whispered shyly, her cheeks flushing pink as she spoke. "I love you and you are the only man I wish to be with..."
As Haidar continued exploring her body, Isabella let out tiny gasps and moaned with passion when he hit a sensitive spot that increased her motions. Her nipples hardened by his touch, and she felt a strong heat growing between her legs as he continued caressing her. Her own hands moved shyly across his body too, as if she was unsure if she was allowed to do this. At this point they were both breathing as if they had run a long distance, and Isabella was more than ready to welcome him into her arms for the first time.
It was at this point they both heard a noise by the door. Isabella froze in Haidar's arms, afraid that it was her father that had changed his mind to come to bring her home with him. As she still laid under Haidar it was impossible for her to get up from the bed.
In the hallway she heard running footsteps from light feet. The door burst open, and little Yvette rushed into the room. "Daddy, guess what Wild and I have done..."
The girl screeched to a stop when she saw her father and Isabella on the bed. Her face flushed red, and she lowered her gaze shyly - deeply embarrassed to have disturbed her father.

Haidar was glad that Isabella would accept Yvette as her daughter if another one was to come. While the girl was already grown and more than capable of taking care of herself, the commander knew that the addition of another member of the family would be complex for her. She would always be his first, and most loved, little girl.
“Your happiness is my happiness,” he told her, caressing her golden locks. “To see your smiling face and hear your melodious voice, that is all I need to be happy. You and Yvette have made my life whole again – truly.”
As their passions rose, Haidar could see from the fire in Isabella's eyes that she yearned for more. He smiled when she said he was the only man she wished to be with. “I hope that I am worth that honor,” he whispered, kissing her softly and drowning in her gaze.
Their moment of tenderness was destroyed when the door snapped closed. Haidar instantly whipped around, his shirt half- laced and poking out of his breeches on one side. His golden eyes fell on Yvette, first with rage and then surprise. Taking a gulp of air, he could feel the weight of her silence and wondered what she was thinking of this situation. He knew it would be impossible to explain away and his forehead beaded with sweat.
“Yvette!” he exclaimed, hoping he sounded as excited as he wanted to. “What are you doing home so soon? I thought I was to see you later in the day.”
Realizing that Isabella was still at his side, he slipped off the bed and smiled at the little girl. “Is the Princess with you?” he asked. “I wish to speak with her before she departs.”
In all honesty, he wanted to escape the strained situation. A breath of fresh air and cold water on the face seemed like the best plan.
Isabella knew that Yvette would feel uncertain of being loved if she learned of other siblings, but she was prepared to love the girl every bit as much as her other children with Haidar. Since Yvette was older, she would be of great help looking after her younger siblings.
"I know Yvette will fear that we won't need her anymore when we have children of our own," she told Haidar. "But I won't stop loving her just because she gets siblings, and I don't think you will either. I hope she will realize that when we start expanding our family..."
She smiled when Haidar caressed her locks, her own hands caressing his golden mane as she nuzzled against his face. "I will do anything I can to keep you happy for the rest of your life," she smiled and hugged him tightly. "Neither Yvette or I would have a home without you. Yvette has told me that you are the only father she has ever had, and that she used to be a bundle of nerves at the orphanage. If that is true, she has changed since you took her under your wings. Now she looks as happy and safe as any little girl can be. As for me, I have never been so happy in my life as I am when I am with you and Yvette."
As their passions rose, Isabella enjoyed Haidar's heated kisses as she wrapped her arms around him and pressed her body to his. She smiled when he hoped he was worthy of her love, and caressed him gently as she drowned into his gaze. "You are," she assured him softly and kissed him again. "You are the only man I will ever love. I can feel it in every fiber of my being."
Yvette, who had just bursted into the room, giggled when Daddy whipped around in bed. She admired how quick his reflexes was, and at the same time he looked a bit funny when his hair was messed up, his shirt half-laced and his face red. She was not used to see him like this, nor was she used to find Miss Isabella in Daddy's bed.
When Daddy spoke to her and slipped off the bed, Yvette beamed with joy, glad that he wasn't angry with her for bursting into his room like this. The child threw herself into Daddy's arms and covered him with loving hugs and kisses as usual as she wrapped her arms around his neck. "Daddy," she squealed with excitement. "I know I was supposed to come home later, but I missed you so much I couldn't wait any longer! And I got a new customer I have to tell you about!"
Throwing a glance towards the bed, she saw Isabella slipping off the bed while adjusting her hair with her hands. The child smiled and hugged her Daddy tightly. "What is Miss Isabella doing in your bed, Daddy?" she asked and looked innocently up at him.
Isabella blushed and looked over at Lord Haidar when she heard the child's question, unsure of how much of their caresses the child had seen. But since the question had been directed to Haidar, she left to him to answer.
The child smiled when Daddy asked about the Princess. "She is waiting in the kitchen," she informed her father. "She didn't wish to disturb you if you were resting, but I told her to wait in case you wanted to talk to her. Is Miss Isabella my Mommy now?"
“I hope in my heart that she knows that we will never abandon her, even if she grows into a beautiful woman. She is my child and will always have a place in my heart and my home. As we age and need someone to care for us, I hope that she will not abandon us.”
Confronted with the ill-timed arrival of his daughter, Haidar winced when he heard her giggle. He did not know how much she had seen, or understood, and so did not know how to proceed with dignity. Once he got off the bed, he smiled as she leapt into his arms. Clearly she wasn't so traumatized as to fear touching him.
“I am eager to hear all about your visit with the Princess,” he told her.
When Yvette asked about Isabella being in his bed, Haidar knew that he couldn't dodge the questions any longer. The sweet face of his little girl seemed to change before him, she was growing up and experiencing the world. “Well, we – we were just talking, and, uh . . .”
Haidar didn't know if he should be relieved that Wild was here, or even more embarrassed that his choices would be known beyond the household. The commander looked at Isabella when the child asked if she was her mother now. What could he say? Despite the passion they felt for one another, they had not talked of marriage or other arrangements. If he said no, what would that cause the child to think of the situation? How would Isabella take the rejection? What would that show of his commitment to her and any future children?
“We-we are still figuring that out at the moment,” he said quickly, knowing the redness of his face could not be missed. “Perhaps you two ladies could discuss this while I get some fresh air.”
Isabella smiled and hugged Haidar when he spoke of Yvette. "Deep inside she knows you will always love her," she said softly. "You have always been kind and loving to her, and she loves you with all her heart. I can tell from the way she looks at you. She will never abandon you or stop loving you."
It warmed her heart to hear Haidar planning growing old with her. He had not proposed to her yet, but these words were indirectly a proposal - a proposal she would gladly accept if he wanted her. "I am sure Yvette will care for us when we grow old together," she smiled reassuringly. "She is a very sweet and loyal girl."
If Haidar felt uncomfortable by her ill-timed arrival, Yvette didn't notice. She was happy to see him again and covered him with hugs and kisses as soon as he picked her up. Wrapped in the safety of her father's arms, she beamed with joy when he said he was eager to hear all about her visit with the Princess.
"I told Prince Blaz that I designed your new uniform," she told him. "And I also told him that I wanted to draw dresses for Queen Radella and for Wild. Miss Isabella had packed my crayons and my sketchbook, so I did - and he liked them so much that he asked me to make the dresses! I never thought I'd get a royal customer! Mrs Genevieve will be so proud when I tell her! Do you want to see the sketches?"
The little girl giggled softly when she saw her father trying to explain what Isabella was doing in his bed. Then she wrapped her arms around him and hugged him. "Daddy, if you like Miss Isabella there is nothing to be embarrassed over," she told him. "I think she is very sweet, and if you want to be alone with her, just tell me so, and I'll go and play somewhere. I like her too, you know, and I hope she can be with us for a long time."
Isabella came to Haidar's side when the child asked if she was her mother now. The young woman smiled softly to the child as she hugged her while she was still in Daddy Haidar's arms.
"In the time I have been here I have grown to love you like my own daughter," she smiled as she caressed the child's red curls. "So I wouldn't mind if you call me mother, you know."
Yvette smiled and hugged Isabella and Haidar tightly. "Now I have both a mother AND a father," she beamed. "I'm going to get spoiled if you two keep up giving me all I wish for..."
Isabella smiled softly and looked at Haidar over Yvette's head. She knew they still had to discuss their future together - if it would be a marriage or other arrangements. As long as Haidar loved her she would be happy with anything he chose - whether it was a life as his wife or as his mistress. She would always love him and little Yvette, and also any future children he would wish to have with her.
Yvette nodded when Daddy told her that he and Isabella were still figuring out their relationship. She had seen them kiss, and hoped it would end with a wedding. Yet she was smart enough to not mention the kiss, as she didn't want to embarrass Daddy too much. "Think of it for a while," she said and kissed his cheek. "And let me know when you have decided. I'm still going to be your child, right? Even if you decide to have other children?"
She smiled when Daddy spoke of getting fresh air. "Good idea, Daddy," she smiled. "And then you can talk to Wild on your way out. She is still waiting for you in the kitchen - and I don't think Prince Blaz will be happy if you keep her here for too long."
The emotions flying through Haidar's body were so new and wonderful, he did not realize that he had spoke with such passion about his future with Isabella. He did love the woman, found her presence more comforting than the best of ales, but his mind was clouded with the euphoria of a new love. Did he plan to make her his bride and grow old with her? In time, of course! But it was an adjustment that they would need to work out as a family – himself, Isabella and Yvette.
Being interrupted by Yvette's story of her meeting with Prince Blaz, Haidar could feel his senses coming back from the clouds. He noticed how hot his skin was, how disheveled his clothing was, how Isabella's beautiful body was lying on his bed. What was I doing? he thought in a panic. A beautiful girl kisses you and proclaims her love and you decide to steal her innocence the next morning!! Oh, what would your father say to your teenage thoughts?! You have more honor than this . . .
Smiling at Yvette and hoping she didn't notice his drifting attention, he kissed her tiny cheek. “I am glad that you have new work for your shop,” he told her. “I knew that your talent would be recognized in time.”
The simple way the child described their adult situation made Haidar blush and chuckle. “I am glad that you will not mind sharing my time with Isabella. I promise that there will always be time for you and me alone.”
Haidar let out a breath of relief when Isabella hugged them both from behind. This was his family now – a beautiful woman and a loving daughter . . . everything he dreamed of. Yet, he felt the fear rise in him, the fear of disappointing them. Was he ready for this commitment? Would he be everything they wanted him to be as a father and . . . lover?
The man didn't respond as the two women spoke of mother and [/i]father[/i], his mind clouded with all the new emotions churning in his stomach. He was glad when Yvette agreed to let him speak with Wild in the other room, the need for fresh air overwhelming him. Setting the child down on the bed beside Isabella, he gave them both a smile before leaving the room. He closed the door almost completely, wanting to give them the privacy they needed.
Releasing the handle, he marched into the kitchen and went directly to the window. Pushing the glass open, he stuck his head out and gasped for air. He felt dizzy, as a man does after too much ale, yet his palette was clean of intoxication. Sinking to his knees, he rested his head on the cool wood of the sill.
Isabella's eyes sparkled as she saw the passion in Haidar's eyes, and her heart raced in her chest. She could not believe that this tall, strong and handsome man loved her and wanted to spend his life with her. She was afraid that they might have rushed things and that he would get cold feet and pull away, but at the same time she knew he was a man of honor and would never hurt a lady. She wanted to give him all the time he needed to be certain of his feelings for her before they brought their relationship to the next level.
She didn't want him to rush things and then regret the whole thing, as she knew many relationships were broken when things were rushed. With time she would be happy to be his bride, if he chose to propose to her. And if he wanted her to be the mother of his future children she would be more than happy to fulfill his wishes.
Yvette beamed with joy when Daddy kissed her cheek and did not notice his drifting attention. Neither did she notice the beaming smiles Isabella sent him when Yvette wasn't looking. She was only happy to be home and see Daddy again. The little girl giggled happily when Daddy praised her for her talent.
"We are almost done with the uniforms for all of your men, Daddy," she informed him. "None of them will freeze this winter. Madam Genevieve told me that the uniforms could be picked up in two days. So I am glad for this order from Prince Blaz so I won't run out of work any time soon. I hope the Queen will like the dress I make for her. I have created the pattern in the fabrics to her honor. Prince Blaz will help me choose the colors for Wild's dress."
Yvette looked up at Daddy with big eyes when he blushed - giggling a little. She had never seen him blush before, and she thought he was cute when he did. Cute - and a little bit funny. "I don't mind sharing you with Miss Isabella, Daddy," she assured him and hugged him tightly. "I know you will still find time to be with me too. You are the best daddy in the world, and I love you. Maurice says all Daddies need a Mommy or they will feel lonely. Is that true?"
Isabella smiled when she heard Yvette's question. Since the answer had been directed to Haidar she left to him to answer it, but the gaze she sent him promised him that she would stay by his side for as long as he wanted her in his life. She knew that men who had spent so many years at war often had nightmares, but this did not scare her. Instead she wanted to hold him when he woke up like that, comforting him in her arms and trying to soothe him until he felt safe again. Safe and loved.
The young woman watched him with concern in her eyes as he excused himself and left the room. She hoped she had not scared him away by showing herself too eager. Her sisters had always told her that the men were the hunters and women were the prey - whatever that meant. While he was outside, she stayed in the room, taking Yvette on her lap like a mother would hold her daughter. The two young women spoke of the new family situation - Isabella made sure to not tell more than necessary. She only told that she and Haidar had started developing warm feelings for each other and that they liked each other very much. More than that she did not wish to say until she had spoke with Lord Haidar again and knew where they stood.
In the kitchen Wild was seated on a vacant chair by the kitchen table when she saw Lord Haidar entering the room and walking directly to the window. She watched with mild amusement and a little concern how he pushed open the glass and stuck his head out to gasp for air. But she did not hear any sounds of puking, and assumed he had not had too much to drink.
"Rough night?" she asked as she heard him muttering to himself.

Haidar glanced at Isabella when Yvette asked about Daddies needing Mommies. “Yes, that is true,” he agreed. “There are some things that only a grown up would understand. But that doesn't mean that I don't love you just as much as before. That will never change.”
As he left the room, Haidar saw the change in Isabella's face and he smiled at her softly. Nothing had changed between them but he needed time to figure out how to adjust Yvette to the new situation. Hopefully some fresh air and sunlight would help in that process
The commander chuckled lightly when Wild asked him about his night. His cheek pressed to the sill, his words came out slurred. "Oh, the night was fine," he confessed. "It was this morning that has me worried." His eyes darted over to the elven princess, aware that anything he said from here out could get to his sister, or worse, the Queen. "How much did you hear when Yvette came in?"
Yvette nodded in understanding when Daddy told her that Daddies felt lonely without Mommies. She loved her father and did not want him to feel sad and lonely like she had done at the orphanage. The child smiled and hugged the man when he assured her he still loved her as much as before. "I love you too, Daddy," she replied and kissed his cheek. "I will always love you, and I want you to be happy."
If Isabella had been worried for Haidar's feelings, the worries disappeared with the smile he sent her before leaving the room. The smile returned to her face and she sent him a warm smile as he left, allowing him to have a moment to himself. She knew they both had to find a way to adjust Yvette to the new relationship.
None of them wanted to traumatize the child or make this harder than it had to be. Young girls were very sensitive, and Yvette was vulnerable after the hard times she had been through at the horrible orphanage in Paris. Isabella had more than once heard the child whimper in her sleep, as if she suffered from horrible nightmares. Hopefully the nightmares would disappear now that she had a proper home.
Wild watched Haidar from her seat when he pressed his cheek to the sill, smiling by how the light pressure slurred his words. "The morning?" she requested gently, then realized how this situation must be for him.
"Mylord," she added, a glimpse of humor in her eyes. "I did not survive a decade at the worst orphanage in Paris by leaking secrets. What you do in your own home in your spare time is your business only. I heard nothing when Yvette came in."

Haidar glanced over at the elven princess as she answered his question. He knew the woman would not lie to him, but still his brain feared that too much had been heard. Closing his eyes, he sighed and lifted his face off the cool sill. His left cheek was a little red from the pressure as he slid down to the floor. With the missing shoes and disheveled clothing, this was not the most glamorous morning he had ever spent.
"Be honest with me Wild," he said. "What kind of person do you think I am? I have been a solider all of my life, married to battle and my soldiers. Do you think that I could have a normal life after all of that -- a wife and child? Am I capable of that kind of love?"

Wild watched Lord Haidar in silence as he lifted his face off the cool sill. If she had noticed his missing shoes and his disheveled clothing, she did not comment it. There was something defenseless about him at this moment - a vulnerable expression in his eyes, and she knew how much it cost him to trust another person with his problems. This was a trust she would not break for any price in the world.
When he asked her what kind of person she thought he was, she tilted her head and studied him for a moment. "Sometimes you remind me of my father," she said at last. "Like you, he was a warrior - spending most of his youth to fight of wars in Mir. My mother had to beg him for giving her children before I was born. She said that if the enemy attacked and they were killed there would be nobody to take over the throne except the enemy. It was the thought of our enemy ruling over Mir that made my father give in and give my mother a child. I was born 9 months after. When I was almost 5 years old, my brother was born. My parents and my brother were killed shortly after - I am the only one of my family who got away, much thanks to my grandfather Oakenshield."
She pondered for a while before she continued. "I think the best way to find out if you could have a normal life is to listen to your heart," she said. "All we have is here and now. Yesterday has passed, and there is no guarantee that we will live tomorrow. So the best we can do is to take the lives we have, how hopeless it might be, and make the best out of it."
She chuckled with laughter when he asked if he was capable of that kind of love. "You are the one who knows best," she said gently. "I can only tell you what I see when I spend time with your little Yvette. I have known her ever since she was dumped at the orphanage - and I have never seen her happier than after you adopted her. So if you ask me if you are capable of that kind of love, and to raise children, I will have to say yes."
Haidar listened as Wild spoke of her father. She spoke of him with the innocence of a child, as she had only been around Yvette's age when they had been separated. He wondered if his own adopted daughter had the same feelings about him? When she mentioned how her mother had begged her father for children, the warrior blushed. Isabella had done the same in a sense, offering herself to him before Yvette's ill-timed arrival. Did she have similar fears too?
“I would hate to leave a woman alone with a child I helped create,” he explained, his eyes wandering to the nearly closed door of his bedroom. “I would feel guilty bringing another life into this world and not be able to enjoy it. I understand that as royal you have a duty to produce heirs for the kingdom, but my line is already secured with . . .” He paused, thinking of his “family”. He had no firm blood relations, only an adopted sister and daughter. If his family honor was to be contested in the future, their claims of right would be worthless. Only a true blood child of the Glaskin line would prevail.
The princess's words about embracing the present made the commander's heart lighten. “As a warrior, I am trained to fear the future, to fear the cruelty of this world. Yet there is still love and warmth and innocence. The darkness of hate has blinded me to this for too long.”
Haidar smiled at the thought of Yvette. “I only hope she is not lonely in my keep. I know that she as siblings of a sort with the other children, but it is different when there is a blood sibling to care for.”
Closing his eyes with a sigh, he smiled at the princess. “Your council is very wise, Your Highness. I see that the Queen has taught you well. Our prince is a lucky man.”
Rising to his feet, he walked back to his bedroom door and knocked softly before entering. The two girls were still there, looking perfect together. As he saw Isabella, his heart beat wildly and he walked to the side of the bed.
“The two of you are the most precious things in my life,” he said, taking each of their hands as he knelt down by the mattress. “I would never hurt either of you and want you to be happy.” Pausing, he looked up at Isabella. “There are changes in our future, happiness that we never imagined. I cannot promise a wedding tomorrow, but I can promise caring, comfort and love. When we are ready, as a family, I will make an honest woman out of you. Will you be content with that?”
Wild saw Lord Haidar blushing when she told him how her mother had begged her father for children. Again she thought of how similar the fates of her father and Lord Haidar were. Both had been at war since their early childhood - both were afraid to pull a woman into the lives war forced them to live. And yet her father had taken the chance and sired two children with her mother. She knew how much he must have feared to lose them, to be forced to see the enemy murder his family without being able to protect them.
Was this the same uncertainty Lord Haidar was feeling now? If he did, she hoped he would overcome his fears so he could experience happiness with a loving wife and some children for as long as he could. He was a trained warrior, and Wild was convinced he would be able to protect himself and his family if the tragedy of war should strike once more.
A soft smile appeared on Wild's face as she saw Lord Haidar's eyes wandering towards the nearly closed door. She had not seen Isabella in this room today, and she guessed the woman was in the other room, together with little Yvette. She wondered what she and Yvette had interrupted with their arrival, and silently promised herself to give the young couple more chances for time alone. She would be happy to look after Yvette if Lord Haidar asked her again.
"I know, Mylord," she said gently when Lord Haidar expressed his fears to create children. "My father had the same fears before I was born. But from the loving way he raised me, I never got the impression that he regretted his choice. I remember him as a kind and gentle giant who always laughed at my pranks. Even if he has been gone for many years, I love him still.
I have seen in Yvette's eyes when she talks of you that she loves you the same way. Ardis also speaks of you with love when we talk of our families. I am certain that you will be a wonderful husband and father one day. You are a grown man, and I can't tell you what to do with your life. But I hope that you will be happy and have a good life surrounded by those you love."
She sent Lord Haidar a warm look of compassion when he realized he had no firm blood relations, and that his adopted family did not have worthy claims of right when his time had come. Only by producing children of his own could he secure his family line.
"I am certain your father would have wished for his family line to continue," she said softly. "And your mother would be happy to have grandchildren, am I right? From what I have heard of her, she was a woman who loved children very much - just like her son. My little orphans have told me how kind you are to them, and that you have spent much of your private time to teach them self defense with weapons."
She listened as Lord Haidar spoke of how he was trained to fear the future, nodding in recognition. Her father had shared the same fear - yet he had always seemed to enjoy her presence. "I am glad you realize that, my friend," she said softly. "It is wise to be aware of your enemies, but don't let the hate cloud your mind and darken your heart. Live life to its fullest and enjoy every moment with your loved ones, for we never know how long our lives will last."
When Lord Haidar spoke of Yvette, hoping she was not lonely in his keep, Wild smiled and shook her head. "Yvette is happier than I have ever seen her, Mylord," she replied. "I can no longer see the fears and anxiety in her eyes like I did at the orphanage. It is clear you have good influence on her, and for that I am grateful. Even if she is close to the other orphans I am quite certain she will be happy to have siblings of her own to play with."
A smile played in the corners of her mouth when Haidar thanked her for her council and said the Prince was a lucky man. "Thank you, Mylord," she smiled. "Yes, the Queen has been very kind to me, and I try to learn from her example. As for Blaz, I feel lucky to have found him. He is the best husband I could have wished for, and I am certain that my people will love him when they get to meet him."
Isabella was still seated on Haidar's bed when Haidar returned to the bedroom, Yvette resting on her lap. Both girls beamed with joy when Haidar entered the room, and Isabella's heart raced in her chest by the sight of him. As Haidar approached the bed and knelt down by the mattress, Yvette wrapped her arms around him and hugged him tightly, resting her soft cheek against his.
"You are the most precious thing in our lives too, Daddy," she told her father as she hugged him, and Isabella smiled and nodded in agreement.
The young woman blushed when Lord Haidar spoke of the changes in their future and the promise of caring, comfort and love. The promise to make an honest woman out of her when they were ready as a family made Isabella's heart race in her chest, and her bright blue eyes brimmed with tears. This was better than any of the daydreams she had about him. Tears of joy trickled down her cheeks and she wrapped her arms around Haidar and Yvette, kissing them both as she hugged them tightly.
"This is much more than I had dared to hope for, Mylord," she beamed and kissed his cheeks. "I don't need to get married tomorrow as long as I can be with you and little Yvette. I am more than content with your generous offer, and I will gladly accept it."

“I would never regret the choice of a child,” Haidar told her, remembering the moments he had shared with Isabella that morning. “A new life should only be filled with hope and promise, never fear. It is the choice to create that new life that weighs so heavily on a man's shoulders. What if I was to be granted this blessing only to be removed before my time? There is no crueler fate than a bright future stolen.”
Remembering his parents, the young lord's heart ached. He could picture their smiling faces when Ardis had been give to them, their glassy eyes as they were brought back from the war in cloth wrappings. “A family is all my mother ever wished for,” he told the princess. “She had lost a child shortly before we visited Isparia and gave her intended name to the baby we returned with. She was thrilled to have a daughter at last, as I was too much like my father to put up with her fussing and etiquette. She had been born to the royal family and so it was her idea to train her children in the higher learning. Needless to say, I didn't take much to that as a child.”
Taking his leave of the elven princess, Haidar returned to his room and met with the other women. He smiled as Yvette hugged him, her touch melting the fear frozen around his heart. Turning his attention to Isabella, he was glad that she was still smiling. Surely she was confused by his hasty retreat, but he was glad that she was accepting of him now.
His face flushed when she kissed his cheeks, drawing her hands into his. “I am glad that you have not run away from my confusing advances,” he told her. “I only wish for my two girls to be happy and I do not want to abandon either of you.”
Drawing Isabella closer, he kissed away her tears and looked into her eyes. “Today we start anew as a family, as a new love.” Softly he kissed her lips, the taste of her skin the most intoxicating sensation he ever felt.
Wild listened to Haidar and nodded in agreement when he said he would never regret the choice of a child, nodding in agreement that a new life should only be filled with hope and promise. She could already see how he had filled little Yvette's life with joy after the horrors she had seen at the orphanage. Yet she could also understand his fears to be robbed of his life before his time, never being allowed to see a child of his own grow up.
"I think all warriors share your worries for the futures of their children," she said. "But even so the world must keep on spinning. And the only way to do that is to make sure we have heirs to take our place in the world when we are no more. That goes for royals as well as for the common man. We are all parts of the great story that is our world."
When Haidar got a pained expression in his face, Wild understood he thought of his parents, and she placed her hand on his arm in sympathy. She too had experienced the pain of losing her parents and knew what he was going through. "My mother had the same wish," she said quietly. "The only way I could fulfill her wish was to marry and have children of my own. I hope her spirit visits now and then, and that she is happy with my choice of husband. I am certain your mother would be proud of you and Ardis too."
She grinned when Haidar said he didn't take much to fussing and etiquette as a child. "That makes two of us," she replied. "My mother often despaired over me running away when she tried to give me a bath. I have a vague memory of jumping into every pool of mud on my wild escape, and the sound of my father's laughter when he watched me and little Haldin from the balcony."
Yvette and Isabella beamed with joy when Haidar joined them in the other room. Yvette covered her father's cheeks with wet baby kisses and snuggled close to him. "I love you, Daddy," the little girl said in a loving tone. "And I will never let you be alone again. Miss Isabella told me how lonely you were before we came along, and I will never let you feel sad or lonely again."
Isabella smiled warmly when Haidar expressed his gratitude she had not run way from his confusing advances. "I understand this new situation is a bit confusing for both of us," she smiled. "I thought perhaps you needed some time to think. I will never abandon you or little Yvette either. I only want for you two to be happy. I will stay and make a good home for you, and educate my young students when they have time off from their other duties."
Wrapped in Haidar's arms, she smiled as he kissed away her tears, drowning in his golden gaze. "Today is a good day to start a family," she smiled and caressed his hair gently. "A long night is over and the sun is shining, both outside our windows and inside our hearts." When Haidar kissed her lips, Isabella closed her eyes and responded to the kiss, pressing her body closer to his as she wrapped her arms around him.
Yvette looked up at her new parents with a big smile on her face, glad that she now had a Daddy and a Mommy. If she left them alone for a moment now, perhaps she would even get a baby brother or a baby sister soon. Wrapping her arms around their legs, she gave them a loving hug - her way to tell that she gave their new love her blessings. Then she tiptoed out of the room to give the two turtle doves some privacy. In the kitchen she grabbed Wild's hands and dance with her in pure joy. "Miss Isabella will be my Mommy!" she squealed. "Now I have a Daddy AND a Mommy!"
Wild laughed when she saw the excited little redhead, and pulled her into a big hug. "That is wonderful," she smiled. "Come, let the two turtle doves have a moment alone. You can stay with me and Blaz until your father comes to pick you up."
In his room, Haidar was enjoying the company of the two ladies. He smiled at Yvette when she declared that she would NEVER let him be alone again. He hoped that meant that she wouldn't hang on his arm at all times of the day, but he knew what she intended.
“It will be hard to feel sad or lonely with the two of you to keep me company,” he pointed out. “I believe that I am outnumber now.”
Glad that Isabella understood his need to think and process the changes in their lives, Haidar took her hand and gave it a soft squeeze. “I could never imagine this home without you now. You and Yvette have made it a place to come back to, not just a set of walls and windows. That alone makes me love you.”
Through his kisses, Haidar felt Yvette hug his legs and patted her on the head. He smiled when he heard the door snap shut, withdrawing long enough to hear the muffled voices of excitement outside as they trailed away. A second snap signaled that they were alone again. Turning to Isabella, he saw that tears still streaked her cheeks and wiped them away with his thumb.
“Here we are again,” he said. “Alone, just you and me. What do you want to do now?”
Yvette smiled when Daddy said it would be hard for him to feel sad or lonely with her and Isabella there. "The only chance for you to be alone will be in the bathroom," she giggled. "But I hope you will spend some time with us too. And we won't disturb you when you are working of course. We know that your job is very important."
Isabella blushed when she felt Haidar squeeze her hand as he told her he could not imagine this home without her. She smiled and squeezed his hand in return, caressing his rough fingers with her own. "I am glad we are able to make this feel like home for you. We love you too, and we will always be here for you when you need us."
The young woman smiled through the kisses when she felt Yvette embracing hers and Haidar's legs, and she patted the child on her head before she left the room. She could hear muffled voices of excitement in the other room and wondered what the Princess would think when she heard the news of Lord Haidar being romantic with his housekeeper. But since Wild had made no attempt to intervene so far, she didn't think the Princess would frown on them. Ladies of the higher classes normally showed their displeasure at once.
Alone with Lord Haidar once more, she leaned in to his caresses when he wiped off the remaining tears of happiness from her cheeks. "I will let you decide what we can do this time," she said softly. "I got to decide last time. Now it is your turn, and you can do anything you want with me."
Haidar laid down on the bed as the last footsteps of the girl's vanished. He smiled when Isabella said that it was his turn to choose.
"I have all morning before my meeting," he explained. "There are many things we could do in that time."
Glancing up at her, he remembered the passionate touches that they had shared before Yvette had arrived. Was she still willing to be touched that way or was the moment gone? Was he right to impose it on her now that they have just declared their relationship in front of their daughter? Was the time right for such a monumental step?
No, he thought. As much as she entices me, it would be wrong to jump to that so soon. She is not a bar wench to have and leave. The time must be right for both of us.
The question then became how to spend time with Isabella without making such personal advances. He smiled as a thought came to his mind. "What about the school?" he asked. "I have been so busy that I have never seen what it looks like on the inside. Would you take me on a tour before the students arrive?"
Glancing down at his ruffled clothing, the lord chuckled. "Perhaps after a bath and change of clothes," he added.
Isabella watched Haidar as he laid down on the bed as the last footsteps of the girls vanished. She had never been alone with a man like this in a room before, and she was a bit nervous. What would he expect from her now? True, she had been married, but her husband had treated her like the child she had been during their marriage. Now she was a grown woman, and the feelings she had for Haidar were different...
She was glad to hear he had all morning before his meeting, and she was glad to get this time alone with him to get to know him better now that they had confirmed their relationship in front of Yvette.
"I have already finished the preparation before today's class," she told him. "I did it yesterday before preparing our dinner and doing the household chores. Yvette was of great help, she is such a sweet little girl. You have every right to be proud of her."
She met his gaze as he glanced up at her, remembering the passionate touches they had shared before Yvette's untimely arrival. She would allow Haidar to touch her like that again if he wanted. She was not the first housekeeper to fall in love with her employer - in fact she knew of many marriages which had started that way. And most of them were happy.
But she also knew that Haidar was a man of honor. Even if he loved her she knew he would not jump to this so soon in their relationship. They would spend a lot of time together, growing closer to each other as he courted her. In a way she was grateful he was so gentle with her, knowing she was still inexperienced with men. The other part of her wanted to be with him, lost in passionate kisses like they had been only moments ago.
Her face lit up in a smile when he suggested a tour through the school the men had build for the children. In the beginning she was supposed to teach only the orphaned children Princess Wild had brought with her from Paris, but then the population had asked her to take in their children as students as well. This had only happened a couple days ago, and Isabella needed to talk to Haidar and the Queen about it before she gave a final answer.
"I am glad you mentioned the school, my dear," she replied and snuck her arm into his. "On Friday some of the other villagers entered the classroom and asked if I could educate their children as well, teach them how to read and write. I personally wouldn't mind, as my little students could get to meet other children. But then there is the matter of finance. It will take books, notebooks and pencils for the new students, and I know it will cost money. We would also need more desks and chairs. So I couldn't answer without talking to you and the Queen. What do you think, Haidar? What shall I answer on Monday when they return for a reply?"
She smiled warmly when she thought of the school. She and the students had worked hard to make the classroom warm and inviting, and it would be nice to show Haidar how much the room had changed since it was built. "I would love to show you around," she said. "Yvette has made the curtains for all the windows, and as you know all the boys helped building the school to finish the building work before the school started. Therese has woven the rugs on the floor, and it looks really cozy there now. For now all the children learn how to read and write. But if they keep up the good work, we will soon need a chemistry laboratory for their science lessons. It will be especially useful for Maurice, who wants to become a healer and a warrior when he grows up. He wants to build up a mobile hospital unit, so the men can get help faster when they are injured in combat. Do you think the Queen will allow it? The building of the science lab, I mean..."
She smiled when he glanced down at his ruffled clothing, nodding in agreement when he spoke of a bath and change of clothes before the tour. "I can draw you the bath," she offered. I placed clean clothes on your desk for you this morning. I should perhaps get changed too, before we leave..."

Haidar could see the change in Isabella's skin tone as he lay beside her. He did not make an attempt to cuddle her, letting her have the space that she needed to adjust to their new situation. He was content to listen to her explanations of her day, wanting to know more about her life apart from himself and Yvette. Also, as a financial investor in the school, it would be crucial for him to know the goings-on in the establishment. At least it gave him an excuse to visit Isabella outside of their quarters.
When she explained the situation with the children, Haidar smiled and sat up. “I am glad that you have such a giving heart,” he told her. “We wished for a place to keep the orphans safe and adjust them to their new lives. What a good idea to bring the rest of the children into their world. Gods know that the education of our youth has been dreadfully poor since the War began and many are going into the world without the basic knowledge. I will give an funds that you might need from my own purse and I am sure the Queen will be thrilled with the success of the school.”
Knowing that the orphans had put as much work into the building as Isabella did in the studies, Haidar knew that the woman had been the perfect choice for their teacher. “I cannot wait to see what you created with the children,” he said, taking her hand and pulling her to her feet. “I will support anything that you wish to give to your students. I will ask for an audience with the Queen as soon as you are ready to speak with her.”
When she offered to draw him a bath, he kissed her cheek. “We can draw it together if you wish,” he suggested boldly. “I may not be as skilled with food as you, but I can bring you a plate as you wash.”
Gilraen: Hi Jack. Tossing in a random post when there is something to post back to. But I am afraid the fortress is falling.
