Gilraen's eyes widened when her mother drew the silver necklace from her neck, the pendant with the family crest the first jewel she had played with when she sat on her mother's lap as a baby.
"I always loved the colors and pattern on this one when I was little," she smiled and caressed it. "But I had never thought I would be the one to carry it... Thank you..." She leaned in to kiss her mother's cheek, allowing her mother to help her on with the necklace. "Do you think it suits me?" she asked as she twirled around before her mother.
Resting her head lovingly on her mother's shoulder, she listened as the woman spoke of how the women of her line had carried this necklace before choosing a husband. Even if Gilraen in her heart already had made her choice she thought it was a sweet gift from her mother, and she did not wish to argue with her.
"I hope I will be able to find a husband just as kind and loving as father," she smiled. "Do you think this necklace will help me make a decision?"
Even though she did not dare to say the words loud, the girl trailed a light finger across the necklace as she thought of her beloved elf guard. I wonder what the necklace will think of my Glorfindel, she thought as she recalled the elf guard's handsome face.

She enjoyed the silent moment in the garden, when Glorfindel carefully chose where to climb the garden walls. For a trained guard like him it was nothing, but she was glad he didn't tease her for having problems climbing in her long skirts. Now that she was 14 years old she did not have short dresses anymore like the ones little Telrunya wore. It wasn't suitable for young women of almost marrying age.
During the climb she told Glorfindel everything she knew about the military and high-born familiies coming to visit her parents at the end of the week and the young men her mother had planned to introduce to her. "Mother did not wish to tell me their names," she said as she held his hand and climbed. "But she assured me that Glendor and Lindear would not be among them. They are men from military families and from the highborns among the royal court. Would you happen to know about anyone fitting both these descriptions?"
She smiled softly when Glorfindel assured her he would never drop her, and she pushed herself off the garden wall and landed gracefully in his arms. Leaning towards him she placed a "heroic" kiss on his lips, glad to be on safe ground again. "I knew you would never drop me," she smiled and hugged him. "You are so strong..."
Sighing with admiration, she took his hand and allowed her to lead her away into the darkness, excited to be out on adventure with her beloved. Her eyes sparkled with lust of adventure, and she giggled softly as they hurried away. "I hope mother won't notice I'm gone..." she whispered to Glorfindel as they made their way towards the forest.
