Elietta smiled at Daddy's reaction to hearing of Mother's birthday. She was quite certain that her parents still loved each other as much as they did when they married. Giggling she leaned towards Daddy and showed him a smaller bag of coins than the one she had given to her mother. "I have been saving up for a while," she whispered to him as she showed him the money. "I thought you wanted to get Mother a present without asking her for money and wake her suspicions that we plan something."
Tilting her head, she studied the little bag of coins. It had almost the same color as Daddy's fur, and if she wrapped the leather strings used for opening and closing the bag to Daddy's front leg, he could easily get the money he needed when he went shopping. He only needed using his muzzle to open the bag. To close the bag, he could grasp the end of the leather string in his mouth and pull. The girl shared these possible solutions with her father as she discovered them, wanting to hear what he thought of it. She even attached the little coin bag to Daddy's front leg so he could try out if it worked.
"What do you think, Daddy?" she asked. "This bag also has the same color as your fur so you can hide it from prying eyes. It is yours to keep if you want it."
From the scowl of Daddy's face when she mentioned her attempt to chase off Tulio, she had a slight feeling that Tulio would regret coming to outside her balcony tonight. Daddy would not let this happen to his little girl again - she knew how protective he was and loved him for it. The girl giggled as Katara stepped forward, picturing Tulio frozen to a wall, his skin color bright blue and with a ridiculous expression of fear in his face. "Oh, that would be fun!" she laughed. "If Daddy's chasing doesn't scare him away we will try out your methods next. I should warn you of Tulio - he is kind of a Casanova around here - and has made it his goal in life to steal the virginity of every young lady in this camp. He has already started chasing after me - but luckily Daddy does a brilliant job chasing him off."
The girl lit up in a smile when Katara spoke of her room, beaming when she found it better than the royal rooms of the Earth Kingdom. "You think so?" she smiled and gave Katara a sisterly hug. "Oh thank you! Mother and Father are very kind and they give Haidar and me everything a child could ever wish for. The best of all is that they always have time for us when we need them. I like you, and you are welcome to use anything in my room when you want to - I want you to feel at home here when you stay with us."
Elietta was already dressed for dinner, so she allowed Katara to choose pieces from her wardrobe. "Your dress is beautiful," she smiled as Katara took it off. "It doesn't look quite like the dresses we use here, but I think it is beautiful anyway." She watched as Katara touched the blue choker at her throat, admiring it. "It is beautiful," she smiled. "I have seen noblewomen wearing chokers like that, so it is in fashion now. It won't be necessary for you to remove yours. Women of lower society do what they can afford to copy the fashion trends set by the nobles. In Paris - especially at the Royal court - appearance means everything."
Esmeralda smiled softly as Kovu assured her that Haidar would never stop loving his mother. "I hope so," she said with a smile. "No matter how old he grows, he will always be my baby boy. As you know, Elietta never bonded with me the same way she did to you. She gives me a hug and talks to me when she sees me, but she has always been your baby. It is you she comes to with her tears and her little secrets. But all in all I love our children. They both have kind hearts, and I wish they will have lives filled with happiness and love."
Noticing how Kovu playfully rolled his eyes as she strategically placed the lute, she laughed and ruffled his mane playfully. "The alternative is that he searches the house for a lute himself," she said softly. "Leaving a trail of mess behind him as he ploughs himself deeper and deeper into the contents of our chests. This way is better, as we won't have to waste our time cleaning up after him..."
She petted Kovu's fur lovingly as she looked into his eyes. The idea of Eletta's future crushes did not worry her, as she knew how protective Kovu was of his daughter's virtue. When Elietta one day married, she knew Kovu would make sure she was married to a decent man who treated her with the love and respect she deserved.
As she stood in the kitchen and prepared the dinner, she smiled friendly as Katara joined her. "Awww, you look lovely in that gown," she said friendly. "The meat is ready for serving, and the potatoes are finished. Perhaps you could chop the salad for me? The vegetables are on the kitchen counter, and there is a proper kitchen knife in the drawer to the right." Shortly after Katara arrived, Elietta too entered the kitchen. Esmeralda, knowing how poorly Elietta's cooking skills were, frantically searched her mind for non-cooking related tasks to give the girl. "Elietta, why don't you prepare the table for dinner?" she suggested, sending Kovu a smile of relief when Elietta obeyed.
"How did the washing go?" she asked her husband as he joined them. "Is Haidar ready for dinner too? It won't take much longer before dinner is served..."
