When Haidar spoke of the royal wedding as the tamest part of the evening, Isabella giggled softly. "I hope for the sake of the two newlywed couples that their wedding nights were not tame as well. But we will find out when the newlyweds decide to show themselves again. A lot can be told from their face expressions the next time we see them."
She nodded when Haidar suggested Yvette helping her with the cooking from time to time. "It will be good training for her," she agreed. "And cooking is among the things a young lady needs to learn before getting a family of her own. I will give lessons in cooking to the girls in my new class. The boys are at your command, and I will give them the lessons you think they need. I also think of teaching them fine embroidery and mastering a musical instrument, perhaps singing class as well. May I suggest reading, writing and mathematics for girls and boys alike? And then you can decide what else the boys will learn. As the leader of the army they are your responsibility. I will make sure to send them to your lessons after their classes with the girls. I will make my time schedule match yours so we don't clash when teaching the children. I don't want them to miss their military training."
A warm smile lit up her heart-shaped face when Lord Haidar reminded her that she was not here to care for him. "I don't mind looking after you both, Mylord," she smiled and looked up at him. "I am used to care for large familys and will on short notice be able to prepare extra foods and beds in case of guests arriving. You have already heard of my strained relationship with my own family so I am happy to be a part of yours."
Their hands touched as Haidar reached for the offered teacup, and a warm blush colored Isabella's cheek by the feel of his strong, warm hands against hers. She enjoyed the touch and made no attempt to pull back her hands. Instead she gathered all her courage and allowed her fingers to caress his skin. Her heart raced in her chest, hoping that his touch was more than a friendly gesture from his side, but life had given her hard blows before so she did not dare to hope. When he spoke she listened, wishing to learn what she could about her students before starting the school.
"Poor children," she said quietly, her bright blue eyes filled with tears of compassion. "I will do what I can to help them when they are in school. It is good they have you in their lives now. You are a good man, strong and brave, and can teach them how to defend themselves so these things can never happen again...."
When he spoke of the nightmares she nodded sadly, knowing his words to be true. "And yet little Yvette seems to have found peace now that she is in your care," she said softly. "You are the best father the poor girl could have wished for, and you can tell how much she loves you from the way she clings to you. Perhaps your love is all she needs for her nightmares to go away? I tried calming her tonight during the nightmares, by holding her in my arms and rocking her back to sleep while singing lullabies for her. It seemed to work a little. Perhaps it will work even more if you try it - since she trusts you."
Isabella agreed that they needed to fight every day to keep the evil away from the children, glad that she and Lord Haidar would fight these evils together. "I agree that we can not risk to loose our children in this battle," she said, unaware that she had referred to the children as theirs. "I will do what I can to help you chase the evil away. Perhaps together we can give them better lives than their previous Master had intended for them..."
As Lord Haidar rose from his chair and walked to her side of the table, Isabella blushed and lowered her gaze. Her blushing deepened when he spoke of the kiss last night - and yet she could not hide a tiny smile from the memory. "I do not see it as an error, Mylord," she replied shyly. "I see it as an act of kindness. I enjoyed our closeness too, and I wouldn't mind if it happens again..."

De Vega chuckled with laughter and rubbed his hands eagerly when Lord Haidar spoke of the night with Isabella. Little did he know that Haidar meant each word literally. "Wonderful," he smiled. "If you are pleased with her I am also pleased. I have trained my daughter to be a perfect housewife for her husband." He did not speak of the bookish interests of his daughter, as Isabella had chosen to study in his absence.
Following Lord Haidar to a m ore reclusive area of the arena, his eyes widened when he saw the contents of the pouch the other man was carrying. Never before in his life had he seen such wealth, and the jewelry was exquisite! He felt proud that he had managed to marry off his youngest daughter to a wealthy gentleman, resting assured that Lord Haidar would be able to caring for his daughter.
"My word," he said as a smile crossed his face. "I would say the coin is more than enough to pay my debt - and the necklaces will indeed be enough to sort my future costs."
The man nodded in agreement when Lord Haidar suggested he took the remaining money and left the city. His current address had started becoming a rather unsafe place to stay now. When his debts were paid he would be more than happy to start a new life. Derrmot was as good a place as any others, so he agreed to the deal. "A new home now would be good for me," he replied and nodded. "And I am pleased with your suggestions so far, Mylord."
His eyes sparkled when he saw a large godl chain with a large yellow pendant, but a look of surprise appeared on his face as Lord Haidar spoke of taking the pendant as dowly for his daughter. Even if he smiled at his daughter's wish to open a school for children he was also secretly proud of his wisdom. He did not protest Lord Haidar's wish to support the local school as he was afraid that Lord Haidar might be angered and take back his generous offer to aid him with his debts.
"Very well, Mylord," he smiled goodnaturedly and nodded. "I hope my daughter will not neglect her husband because of her love for books and learning. My wife was just the same, so I never had the heart to refuse my daughter an education. I may tease her in front of my friends, but between the two of us, I am proud of all she has achieved..."
The last thing remaining was the silver necklace with sapphire coins - a beautiful piece of jewelry. De Vega briefly noticed how the color of the sapphires matched his daughter's eyes, and he had no protests when Lord Haidar spoke of the necklace as a wedding gift from her father. Perhaps he was a bit ashamed for the problems his gambling debts had put Isabella into in the past, for he nodded when Lord Haidar asked if he agreed.
"It is a beautiful necklace," he agreed with a smile. "A worthy gift for my daughter. I think we are settled too, Mylord. Allow me again to thank you for your generous offer and help me with my gambling debts. I will start a new life in Derrmot now, and never see as much as a playing card again... I wish you the best of luck in your life with my daughter, and I hope you will give me lots of grandchildren..."
