Okay, this is just to remind everyone about the ever annoying RP issue known as God Modding. God Modding occurs in many different ways in RPs and is rather complicated because of the many different ways you can God Mod.
Basically:
1. Controlling someone else’s character- This is a very common and well known example of God Modding. In the simplest of terms, you make someone else’s character do something, or make your own decision about the effects of an attack. (I.E. Taking their wand away if they’re a wizard, writing that said character takes a bullet to the heart, breaking a body part of said character, etc.) Even if the possibilities of things happening , such as someone dropping their wand out of distraction or someone hearing a noise, are 90 percent, do not assume. Leave it up to the character’s RPer on their character’s decisions unless they give you permission.
2. Making your character invincible or all-knowing- I already said that the RPer only decides how their character reacts or gets hurt, right? Well, it’s okay to dodge blows and that stuff once in a while but don’t do it all the time! Everyone has weaknesses! As for characters that know all, not everyone is as observant as Sherlock Holmes! You can’t read someone else’s thoughts and be entirely accurate.
3. Controlling a general group- This is basically if you control people who really are controlled by nobody. (I.E. Customers, citizens, etc.) These people are known to me as NPCs (meaning non player characters) and controlling them to an extent is okay in my opinion. But when they begin to develop their own individual thoughts or are RPed when your actual character isn’t, something is definitely rotten in the state of Denmark.
4. Controlling an individual character owned by nobody- This is usually if this character is directly connected to the character of the person who’s God Modding or needed for an important plot. Obviously, the character is owned by nobody and is being used temporarily until someone claims them as their own. This is definitely the only acceptable use of God Modding.
Okay, here you guys are! Feel free to comment with your own interpretations or something. Or maybe to make an additional example. After all, everyone makes mistakes.
